Dear Sir or Madam,
First, I want to thank you for taking the time to consider my application.
I am currently a graduate student finishing M.S. in CS in May (GPA 4.0),
meanwhile I have been working with Endicott Johnson Corp. as an MIS
assistant since summer 1998 on their database migration project.
Although I am very proud of myself at maintaining a high GPA in both my fields,
I fully understand that book-smart doesn't necessarily translate into street-smart.
However, I hope my academic record at least reflects the fact that I have been
very hard working to achieve this. I consider myself especially good at working under
extreme pressure and arranging my time efficiently for multiple tasks.
Besides study, I am very glad for being able to work with Endicott Johnson Corp
on their MIS database migration. Since this is a relatively small MIS team, I get to
participate in almost every aspect of this project. My work includes developing
universe/report forms using Business Objects with Oracle 7.3, PL/SQLstored procedures,
Oracle Forms using Developer 2000, Unix scripting on RS/6000, VB programming for
store messaging etc. I have gained substantial experience on database migration from this
ongoing project. But I think the most valuable experience I have learned
is the confidence and ability to learn and apply new technology/tools quickly.
As for programming, I have very good understanding on Object Oriented programming.
I have about 5 years experience with C/C++, especially MFC windows GUI programming,
with which I have about 2+ years experience. I started using Visual Basic since 1996,
I have written a VB 4.0 program using Adobe Premiere to do video analysis for our
research purpose. After that program, I have been using VB 5.0 since. During my study
I have used Java, Perl, Unix Shell scripting, Haskell, Prolog, etc. Also my education in
Physics has porvided me solid math background and problem solving skills. My work
experience with Arthur Andersen has also educated me the basic financial/accounting
knowledge and fast paced, team oriented consulting culture.
All being said, I consider myself an intelligent, hardworking person with relative broad
knowledge background and reasonable length of industry experience. Given a chance, I am
confident that my skill and talent will be proven a valuable addition to your
assets.
I look forward to joining your team.
Once again, allow me to thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jake Huang
